Date: October 23, 2006 St. James Senior Estates has officially opened its doors to those in the Crete, Ill. area. St. James Senior Estates is the first affordable senior housing community to be developed by St. Joseph Senior Housing, a division of The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation. The community had its grand opening, blessing and dedication on October 18. St. James Senior Estates features 16 one-bedroom apartments and 24 two-bedroom apartments and is available for seniors 62 and older who have restricted housing options due to personal financial limitations. To qualify, a potential resident must have finances that fall between 30 percent and 60 percent of the median income of Will County, Ill. “It’s extremely satisfying to think back to the beginning of this project and to see it all become a reality,” said Ron Maine, president of St. Joseph Senior Housing. “Those who reside here were in need of homes that they could afford while being able to attain a safe and maintenance-free lifestyle. We believe they’ve found such a lifestyle at St. James Senior Estates.” The community has many excellent features, including an indoor community room, a clubroom with a full kitchen, meditation/prayer room, business/computer center, library, fitness room and outdoor patio. Residents also enjoy an onsite hair salon, onsite resident manager and laundry rooms that are located on each floor or within the apartment. This is a secure access controlled building that is handicapped accessible. St. James Senior Estates is located on the same campus as St. James Manor & Villas. This convenient location means that residents have the opportunity to use Franciscan Communities’ continuum of care if their health needs change in the future. The community has been filling fast.
